The Regular Investor
In this section of the website, we aim to both encourage and assist members who are in a position to invest on a regular basis. For a reminder of the benefits of regular investing, you should read the related featured article.
Why Not Replicate Our Monthly Purchases?
Each month, we will select a stock or fund in which to invest €1,000. If we can find no decent stock idea, we will buy a 'listed' fund in the form of either an exchange traded fund (ETF) or an investment company. If we have no suitable fund or stock idea then we will default to buying Lyxor's London quoted 'FTSE World Equity ETF' which is one of several globally diversified equity ETFs available to investors. An investment of €1,000 ensures than the transaction costs which, if you deal through a low-cost online broker are likely to be no more than €25 each time, do not weigh on the eventual returns.
Everyone Can Invest Cheaply, Wisely While Smoothing Out the Inevitable Volatility
The idea is to demonstate that any investor starting from even modest beginnings and investing regularly can, over time, obtain good diversification and achieve the market returns while keeping costs to a minimum and smoothing out the inevitable ups and downs (volatility) in markets.
All Assets Classes Are an Option
We will have the flexibility to invest in direct shares, exchange traded funds and investment companies as well as the different asset classes of property, commodities, corporate bonds, government bonds, hedge funds and private equity funds. We will compare the value of the portfolio on an ongoing basis against the FT World Index ETF (expressed in Euros), which we could also buy. Memebrs also have the facility to monitor the performance of the 'Regular Investor's Portfolio' on the website.
Perfect Approach for the Novice Investor, Individual Saver, the Pension Investor or an Investment Club
Replicating our picks can be a great way for the novice investor to get started. It should also appeal to investors who don't have a lump sum to invest starting out but who can save regularly and to those who have the flexibility to manage their own pension. As a source of ideas and investment discipline, it should also appeal to investment clubs.
An investment club can be a great way to get started - with a few friends or relatives. If you have an interest in establishing an investment club then you should call Susan Hayes or Ardle Culleton in 'The InvestR Centre' office (01 2871400) or email us at info@investRcentre.com . We will assist you to establish an investment club, which is a legal entity, for a modest fee.
